Dubrovnik - the city of a unique political and cultural history (the Dubrovnik Republic, the Statute from 1272), of world-famous cultural heritage and beauty (inscribed on the List of World Heritage Sites by UNESCO) - is one of the most attractive and famous cities of the Mediterranean.
Dubrovnik is located on the main road (M2, E65). The Dubrovnik airport is located in Cilipi. The main bus station is situated in the part of the city called Kantafiga. There are regular bus lines connecting Dubrovnik to the rest of Croatia, as well as, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Monte Negro.
It lies at the foot of the limestone Srđ Mount (412 m), in a valley enclosed to the south-west by the Lapad plateau and a smaller reef with the oldest part of Dubrovnik.
Apart from its outstanding natural beauties and well-preserved cultural and historical heritage, Dubrovnik also offers high-quality visitor opportunities. It is also the city of hotels, of high ecological standards and tourist programs, and is equally attractive in all seasons.
A walk through Stradun, through narrow streets and small squares, monumental ramparts and fortreses, provides enough opportunities to experience the millennial beauty of its shell-shaped urban core, centuries of building, stone-cutting, carving and engraving, the history of the Duke's Palace, libraries, the oldest pharmacy in the south of Europe, etc.
Southeast of the old part of the town is a tourist zone called Ploce (hotels and beaches), west of it is Lapad (sports facilities, hotels, beaches, walking trails), while northwest of it is the Gruz port and Gruz.
Dubrovnik - Beaches:
The most popular beach in Dubrovnik is definitely Banje Beach. Banje is a pebble and partly sand beach situated in the part of town called Ploce. Here you can enjoy refreshments at the East-West bar. You can also enjoy Banje Beach at night when East-West works as a nightclub. The beach has it's own reception, stylish restaurant, caffe bar just above the level of the beach, filled with modernistic white, low, benches and curved couches, deck chair and sun umbrellas rentals, luxurious baldachins rentals, water ski, jet ski, speed boats, tuba and banana drive etc.
Famous stars, international sportsmen, artists visiting Dubrovnik are daily visitors of this special place.
Sv. Jakov beach - One of the most attractive beaches in Dubrovnik, Sv. Jakov (St. James), found its place on a solitude spot in a high rising cove beneath the beautiful church and abbey of Sv. Jakov (St. James). It is a pebble and sandy beach with a tremendous view on Dubrovnik and the Lokrum island.
Several wonderful beaches are located in part of Dubrovnik called Lapad. Lapad is a peninsula holding the most beautiful, outer walls, part of Dubrovnik, with a heavenly bay, Sumratin bay (Uvala Lapad) in which all these beaches are located.
Lapad bay has a long promenade with many cafes. The first beach after the promenade is called Uvala Lapad or Uvala (meaning Bay).
The next beach on your left side is the Adriatic beach. Adriatic beach also has all the commodities like the other beaches, and it is suitable for those who don't like sand or pebbles, because it is made of concrete.
The Vis Beach I is right next to the Adriatic beach. It is a pebble beach. You can find a beach restaurant and a coffee bar on this beach. Cocktail parties are organized on the beach almost every day. For those who like kayaking, there are kayaks and beach canoes for rent. Near the Vis I beach is the Splendid beach. It is a very small and attractive pebble beach with concrete parts and rocky parts.
When you pass beach Splendid you will come across beach Villa, which is an attractive sandy beach. The beach next to Vila beach is Vis II. It is a small interesting rocky beach with some concrete surfaces.
Except beautiful beaches, Lapad has many other attractive places. If you like playing beach volleyball or tennis there are many courts in Lapad on which these sports can be played. Courts are located on beaches or near them so you can refresh yourselves in the sea after playing.
Across the bay, on the opposite side of all these beaches there is a beautiful walkway for romantic and peaceful walks, conected to the before mentioned promenade. It is a path which leads all around Lapad peninsula and that is probably the most beautiful path for walking in Dubrovnik.
If you are tired from walking, on this very walkway, near Villa Elita is a small and lovely restaurant, Levanat, with a a small coffee bar offering fish, shrimps, and other sea specialities.
Dubrovnik - Gastronomy:
A great number of Dubrovnik restaurants and taverns offer delicious specialities of local and international cuisine.

Waterpolo - is one of the sports that are played vigourosly in the City and beyond. One of the best Croatian, even world, waterpolo club 'Jug' (South) is pride and joy of Dubrovnik.
There is an amateur league played during the summer called 'divlja Liga' (Wild league). Only non professionals may play in the league and every team represents one of Dubrovnik beaches. The league is played half seriously half fun, the main idea that everybody has a good time. Everyone may join in, if you feel up to it contact the people on your beach playing the game about the details how to join a team.
