Porec - Beaches:
The old part of the town is situated on a small peninsula separated from the mainland by an artificial canal, and protected from the maritime influences by the island of St. Nicholas, distinguished by its rocky and sand beaches.
The bathing beach and a large campsite are located in a nice cove south of the town, ringed by a pine forest.
One of the most popular beaches is Gradsko kupaliste (City beach). 1 km southern from the center of the city of Porec. On the south there is a tourist village Brulo and on the northern side is Porec marina. The coast of the beach is 1300 m long. Gradsko kupaliste is a stone slab paved urban beach. The beach has lifeguards, life-saving equipment, first-aid, facilities for the disabled, sport and water sport facilities, beach volley, renting facilities, catering facilities. The beach has a blue flag.
Popular place in Gradsko Kupaliste is Colonia Iulia Parentium beach club, named after the Roman colony that evolved into the town of Poreč. The club is located in one of the most astonishing parts of Porec, the marvelous green grove bay, only few steps from the sea, thus rightfully gaining the title of a beach club.
In Colonia, you can hear various sorts of music, from house to funky, latino, ska, pop, rock, acid jazz and many others.
Every night there's a new DJ playing a different style of music, and all of them are in touch with the audience, spreading good vibes and groovy moods. Colonia offers reknown house music on Wednesday, as famous DJ's from all over Europe play cheery, groovy and sexy house music. Also, the Colony is the stage for many famous local and foreign bands. Like every year, Colonia is going to be one of the hottest places in Poreč this summer. Colonia opens every night at 8 pm.
Resorts Plava and Zelena are located in a well-maintained evergreen forest near the rocky and pebbly, flat coast with flat and well maintained beaches.
While in Poreč, one must also visit the islet of St. Nicholas (Sveti Nikola) just off the coast from the town. It is Poreč's oldest bathing place and favourite since the end of the 19th century. The islet can be reached by free boat which departs regularly from the town promenade. It takes only few minutes to reach St. Nicholas. The island is covered with an autochtonist forest of black oak and some pine trees.
Along with paved and pebble beaches, you can choose from one of the two rocky breakwaters or the grassy areas in the unspoiled nature. From the islet you can enjoy a stunning view of Poreč. There is also sufficient shade under the pine trees, while the rocky part of the island, facing the open sea and with shallows and hidden places for sun bathing, will enchant you.
The most known islet's beach is the Oliva Beach. The beach is a low- lying partly pebbly, partly constructed in the shape of a round pool on one side of the breakwater and a concrete plateau on the other side of the break- water. Part of the sun bathing area extends across a grassy surface of a small pine park. The beach can be safely approached via paths which are paved in stone or concrete. The paths lead through a pine-tree park with sport facilities. The beach is located close to the Fortuna hotel, but it also serves as a local beach. The beach has sanitary facilities, lifesaving and first-aid equipment.

Porec - History and Cultural Heritage:
The most precious cultural monument in the city of Poreč, comprising a 6th-century complex of sacral buildings erected during the time of Bishop Euphrasius, lies in the northeast part of the urban-historical core of the city. The Basilica, built on the foundations of a much earlier church, is dominated by a triple-naved apse, a narthex, the atrium, an octagonal baptistery, and the bishop's palace.
The edifice was added to in the 13th and 15th centuries, and a bell-tower was erected in the 16th century. The apse is ornately decorated with figural mosaics, which, together with the mosaics in San Vitale in Ravenna, comprise one of the most remarkable examples of mosaic art in Europe. From the floor mosaics and from preserved inscriptions we are able to follow all the phases of building, adaptations and renovations, that is to say, the dynamics of the life of the Christian community in Poreč.
